SOLD<br /><br /> DESCRIPTION: An original signed and framed impressionistic oil painting by Hungarian artist Ladislao Szody. With exquisite detail, the artist has captured the features of the South American, wrapped in a blanket, using a vibrant color hue. Signed “L. Szody 1946” in the upper right corner. DIMENSIONS: With frame: 21.5” wide x 25” high; Canvas: 17.5” wide x 20.75” high. <p>ABOUT THE ARTIST: Ladislas Szody (1902-1973) was an internationally known artist and portrait painter. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts at Florence, Italy, from 1923 to 1927, and later in Spain, where he met his wife. From 1927 to 1929 he taught in Florence; he also taught at the Sorbonne in Paris, in New York and Puerto Rico. <p>Paintings by Mr. Szody took first prizes at the Budapest National in 1941 and the International Exhibition of 1955 in Barcelona. As a noted portrait painter, he was commissioned to paint a portrait of Gustav Adel, King of Sweden in 1931. He also did portraits of Spanish aristocracy during the years 1934 through 1936, and painted portraits of King Farouk in 1936 and Pope Pius XII in 1940. <p>He and his Spanish wife were world-wide travelers, and were living in Venezuela when this particular portrait was painted in 1946. From there he moved to San Mateo, California, and also lived in Hawaii and Texas. <p>Paintings by the artist now are a part of permanent collections in the Budapest City Museum, the Museum of Modern Art in Rome, the Trieste Art Museum, the Madrid Museum of Modern Art, and the Museu d´Art Contemporani de Barcelona, as well as in private collections. <div id='rater_target1391788'></div>
